The original Spanish is:Dios es la substancia de lo que amamos.
This aphorism appeared in almost exactly the same form in Notas, p. 466. The one difference, in Spanish, was that "substance" was spelled sustancia in Notas, whereas in Selección it was spelled with a "b" as substancia.
