English translations of the aphorisms of Nicolás Gómez Dávila
The original Spanish is:
ReplyDeleteNo hay oficio despreciable, mientras no se le atribuya importancia que no tiene.
This is a good illustration, I think, of two of Gómez Dávila's main concerns: hierarchy and value. In this aphorism, every occupation has value, but its value also depends on its being in its proper place within a greater hierarchy of values.
